U16 Schoolboys League
They say good things come to those who wait. These Lads had waited long enough and after a few performances where we had shown plenty of character but didn’t quite get over the line they got a richly deserved and long awaited win in a frantic local Derby at Moneygurney this morning.
Douglas started with real intent and threw players forward overloading the inside left channel keeping Jamie O Sullivan under sustained pressure for a spell. Jamie stuck to his task and with the support of Matt Walsh and
Fionn O Mahony they managed to keep Douglas Hall at Bay. Daniel Moynihan produced another display of top glass goalkeeping to keep Douglas from getting their noses in front. Sean Casey and Charlie O Regan provided width and energy as We gradually got a foothold in the game
Ryan Driscoll and Jack Hanlon were working hard to get on the ball and started to play the ball in behind the Douglas defence creating a few openings and some badly needed service for our 2 hungry strikers Conall O Callaghan and Ronan Allen. Daniel Akinsanya was getting tackles in and making runs through the middle as we battled hard to try and get some breathing space and make a few chances of our own
Jack Hanlon gave the ball to Conall from a short corner and his whipped cross was met by Daniel Akinsanya at the near post to put us 1-0 up which was a bit fortunate on the balance of play.
The second half began with Douglas again going all out for a goal but Daniel Moynihan was in great form making several saves . Unfortunately for us Douglas did get back in the game when their striker managed to breakthrough and took his chance really well.
Glen Lyons had been introduced wide on the left and Bassam wide on the right giving us fresh legs and added physicality as the intensity of the game never let up. Sean Quinn came in to the defence and played a big part in keeping the Douglas Hall attack from getting in behind with vital tackles and interceptions.
Bassam got onto the ball in the middle of the park and played a great ball over the top for Conall to run onto with great timing and even better finishing as he lifted the ball high over the keeper and under the crossbar to restore the lead. Jack O Leary was now now causing havoc by pressing high on the opposing defenders and denying them time and space. Charlie won a tussle in the Douglas half and released Daniel Akinsanya who stormed down the fight delivering a beautiful cross to the back post where Conall had made a run to finish the move off with a great header. Alvarro gave our attack another outlet in the closing minutes as we looked to maintain the intensity and see the game out. Cillian did not feature today but his commitment to the Team is vital and he backed his Team all the way as did Cody and Sam who were there to support the Team though not fit enough to play. The victory was one of the sweetest and hard earned as it was so long awaited and for it to come in a tense local derby made it sweeter. The Boys have been working hard in training and there is a great atmosphere within the group as they can see themselves the progress they are making under the watchful eyes of Eddie and Kevin whose Training sessions are planned and delivered with great enthusiasm and loads of variety.
The support was magnificent and much appreciated .
She’ll probably kill me but we’d like to dedicate the win to the Birthday Girl and Passage legend Alison Murphy. 😀🇳🇬

CELTIC Soccer Academy is delighted to announce that they have added a further five partner clubs to their ever growing Club Partnership Programme in Ireland.

The new clubs are Passage AFC (Cork), Keadue Rovers (Donegal), Glenmuir (Dundalk), Ardcroney FC (Tipperary) and Temple Villa (Athlone), which gives the club a spread of partnerships all across the country, bringing the total number of partner clubs in Ireland to 16.

These partnerships allow the club the opportunity to re-connect with supporters in a very important market for Celtic, and to build mutually beneficial relationships for each party.

The long term partnerships will involve the sharing of club methodologies, coach education, coaching camps, and general best practice. The partner clubs will also embark on team tours to Celtic Park, and will spend some time with our coaches here.

Willie McNab, Celtic Soccer Academy Manager, said: “The latest additions to the Club Partnership Programme really highlight the great work which is currently going on in Ireland at the grassroots level.

“We firmly believe these clubs are the perfect fit for our club partnership programme and we are looking forward to working with them for a long time to come’’

The new facility adds a new dimension to the Club and will facilitate additional training sessions for all members, especially through the winter months. The facility also provides commercial opportunities for the Club to hire externally and generate funds for the Club into the future.

We are delighted that the facility is now opened and the Club is inviting all our members to attend the official opening on Friday @ 6pm in Maulbaun to celebrate this momentous occasion.

We look forward to seeing you on the night!

Passage AFC awarded €70,000 grant aid.

Passage AFC today received a major boost when the Sports Capital Programme grant awards were announced on Dec 2nd, 2012. The Club had submitted an application to develop our facility at Maulbaun, with the addition of an All-weather training facility, and recently had the planning application approved for the development.

The development project will be funded by the Club’s many fundraising events and the announcement today that the Club will be awarded €70,000 towards the development of the All-weather facility is a huge step forward for the Club and for the wider community.

The All-weather facility will be used both by the ‘Star of the Sea’ local primary school and our Club in a joint venture to help increase the overall participation in sport in the wider community. The facility will also be available to other local community organisations.

With the announcement today the Club hope to accelerate plans to construct the All-Weather Facility at the Maulbaun site, with the intention of having the new facility in place before the start of next season.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support in bringing us to this point with our development plans. From the generous contributions of the local community, the parents of all our players, our club sponsors and club fundraisers, to the engineer, the solicitor, the council members that guided us through the lease and planning processes, and a special thanks to our local politicians for lending their support to our grant application.

We hope we can rely on your continued support in developing the club facilities for the benefit of the wider community.
