Moneygourney
DOUGLAS HALL 1
PASSAGE AFC. 3
They say good things come to those who wait. These Lads had waited long enough and after a few performances where we had shown plenty of character but didn’t quite get over the line they got a richly deserved and long awaited win in a frantic local Derby at Moneygurney this morning.
Douglas started with real intent and threw players forward overloading the inside left channel keeping Jamie O Sullivan under sustained pressure for a spell. Jamie stuck to his task and with the support of Matt Walsh and
Fionn O Mahony they managed to keep Douglas Hall at Bay. Daniel Moynihan produced another display of top glass goalkeeping to keep Douglas from getting their noses in front. Sean Casey and Charlie O Regan provided width and energy as We gradually got a foothold in the game
Ryan Driscoll and Jack Hanlon were working hard to get on the ball and started to play the ball in behind the Douglas defence creating a few openings and some badly needed service for our 2 hungry strikers Conall O Callaghan and Ronan Allen. Daniel Akinsanya was getting tackles in and making runs through the middle as we battled hard to try and get some breathing space and make a few chances of our own
Jack Hanlon gave the ball to Conall from a short corner and his whipped cross was met by Daniel Akinsanya at the near post to put us 1-0 up which was a bit fortunate on the balance of play.
The second half began with Douglas again going all out for a goal but Daniel Moynihan was in great form making several saves . Unfortunately for us Douglas did get back in the game when their striker managed to breakthrough and took his chance really well.
Glen Lyons had been introduced wide on the left and Bassam wide on the right giving us fresh legs and added physicality as the intensity of the game never let up. Sean Quinn came in to the defence and played a big part in keeping the Douglas Hall attack from getting in behind with vital tackles and interceptions.
Bassam got onto the ball in the middle of the park and played a great ball over the top for Conall to run onto with great timing and even better finishing as he lifted the ball high over the keeper and under the crossbar to restore the lead. Jack O Leary was now now causing havoc by pressing high on the opposing defenders and denying them time and space. Charlie won a tussle in the Douglas half and released Daniel Akinsanya who stormed down the fight delivering a beautiful cross to the back post where Conall had made a run to finish the move off with a great header. Alvarro gave our attack another outlet in the closing minutes as we looked to maintain the intensity and see the game out. Cillian did not feature today but his commitment to the Team is vital and he backed his Team all the way as did Cody and Sam who were there to support the Team though not fit enough to play. The victory was one of the sweetest and hard earned as it was so long awaited and for it to come in a tense local derby made it sweeter. The Boys have been working hard in training and there is a great atmosphere within the group as they can see themselves the progress they are making under the watchful eyes of Eddie and Kevin whose Training sessions are planned and delivered with great enthusiasm and loads of variety.
The support was magnificent and much appreciated .
She’ll probably kill me but we’d like to dedicate the win to the Birthday Girl and Passage legend Alison Murphy. 😀⚽🇳🇬
